About PARC
The Pan American
Racquetball Confederation was founded in 1986 as the developmental
governing body for the sport in the Americas. The development of the
sport in the Americas began in 1983 with the Pan Am Regional
Championships, held in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Competitions in
the Americas have been held every year since the Tournament of the
Americas was established as the major regional event in 1985. In 2002,
the TOA was officially re-titled to the Pan American Racquetball
Championships to better reflect the competition.
Within PARC
there are also regional organizations which govern the sport. They are:
the Central American Caribbean Confederation, the Central American
Confederation and the South American Confederation.
These
organizations follow the PASO recognized regional competitions leading
up to the Pan American Games and the Olympic Games one year later. Each
conducts their own competitions along with clinics and coaching
development programs.
The Pan Am
Championships have been held yearly since 1985. PASO recognized
competitions featuring racquetball as a full medal sport include:
Central American
Caribbean Games, since 1990. Central
American Games, since 1989. South
American Games (based upon venues), since 1990. Bolivarian
Games, since 1990.
Since its
inception, the member countries and teams of PARC have dominated the
top ten finish positions of the world championships. Currently 7 of the
top 10 teams in the world come from the Americas including the top six
countries.
PARC has held
numerous clinics for officials as well as coaching certification and
clinics since its inception. PARC has also been a recipient of Olympic
solidarity monies for a coaching seminar which certified 25 coaches in
the Americas in 2002.
PARC is unique
within the Olympic world in that it requires that equal divisions for
both men and women must be offered in all IRF/PARC sanctioned events. |
